Dr. Jerry Kennett has joined Boone Hospital Center as vice president and chief medical officer. Dr. Kennett will continue to practice with the Missouri Cardiovascular Specialists while serving in his new Boone Hospital role. Kennett is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology. Additionally, Dr. Kennett served on the BHC medical staff for 30 years.

Josh Johnson has joined Arable Entertainment, A Pure Company, as a producer. Johnson’s background in media production includes serving as a visual effects artist on the Universal Pictures film “Duplicity” starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Before joining Arable, Johnson was an instructor teaching CGI creation and compositing.

Erica Pefferman has joined Pure Marketing and Media as vice president of business development. With previous employment including multiple media outlets and agencies, Pefferman has more than 10 years of experience in marketing and advertising.

Kat York has been appointed catering manager of the new Hampton Inn & Suites at the University of Missouri. York previously was the event coordinator at Stoney Creek Inn & Conference Center for four years and the dining room manager at the University Club.

The Missouri State Medical Association recently welcomed Haley Wansing to its staff as director of membership. She will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of physician members in western Missouri. Wansing, a Columbia College graduate, previously was an account executive for Communiqué Inc. in Jefferson City.

Pure Marketing and Media has added Mark Swanson to its team as chief creative officer. After spending time with major advertising agencies in New York and Chicago, promoting brands such as Coca-Cola, Kraft, Oscar Mayer and AOL, Swanson returned to Columbia in 2001.

UMB Bank announced the promotion of Tony Mayfield to 
Community Bank President of Columbia. Mayfield will lead planning for retail and commercial banking opportunities in Columbia and the surrounding area. Mayfield joined UMB in 2005 and was most recently a senior vice president and senior commercial lender for the bank in Kansas City.

Honors

Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman, along with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Chattanooga Mayor Claude Ramsey, received a Leadership for Healthy Communities Award. The award was presented at the Leadership for Healthy Communities Childhood Obesity Prevention Summit in Washington on May 7. Hindman was cited for his leadership in establishing policies that encourage active living among the entire population and in particular among school-age children.

Dr. Rachel Brown, the associate dean for student programs at the MU School of Medicine, was recently named vice chair for the central region’s Group on Student Affairs, a professional advisory group within the Association of American Medical Colleges. Brown’s vice chair position marks the beginning of a four-year term of service to the regional group, which will also include a year serving as the group’s chair in 2011.

Accreditations

Adrienne Stolwyk, an intern architect with Peckham & Wright Architects, has received LEED accreditation as offered through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. She is currently working the documentation for obtaining LEED certification for the Eco School House at Grant Elementary School and Columbia Fire Stations No. 7 and No. 9.
Certifications

Jean Crowley, president of Palmer Painting, Inc., announced that the commercial and industrial painting contractor received certification from the state of Missouri as a Women-Owned Business Enterprise on May 1. Crowley, who has owned Palmer Painting with her husband, Mark, since 2002, said the process took about six months.
