Word Marketing has hired D.J. Daller as an associate partner. Daller will focus on developing marketing solutions for businesses. He comes to Word Marketing with 10 years of experience working in the broadcast industry in both the St. Louis and Columbia-Jefferson City markets.
Hemingway’s restaurant has hired Jesse Williams as executive chef. Williams is a Columbia native who has worked for 15 years at various restaurants, including CC’s City Broiler, Boone Tavern, Dali’s and Jack’s Gourmet.
Promotions
Columbia College has named Lana Poole the executive director of marketing. Poole, who holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri, has 25 years of experience in administration, public relations and marketing. She was formerly associate director of marketing for Columbia College.
Shelter Insurance has promoted Adam J. Crutchfield of Columbia to the position of commercial underwriter in the Underwriting Department. Crutchfield joined Shelter’s Columbia staff in April 2008 as a customer account representative. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Missouri.
Appointments
The Boone County National Bank Board of Directors elected Jay Burchfield and Mike Vangel to the board. Burchfield worked with Commerce Bancshares as a commercial loan officer and with Jeffrey E. Smith Companies before founding WilGate Development LLC., a firm specializing in investment consulting, development, construction and management of real estate ventures. Vangel is president and chief creative officer for VANGEL, an advertising and public relations firm he founded in 1986.
Gary Drewing has been named the 2009 Muscular Dystrophy Association Community Chairperson for Columbia. Drewing will help the association raise awareness and funds to carry out its mission of finding treatments and cures for more than 40 neuromuscular diseases. Drewing, president of Joe Machens Dealerships, has been a supporter of MDA for more than 20 years, sponsoring a Sale-a-Thon every Labor Day weekend to benefit the organization.
Columbia Metro Rotary has inducted the following new members in the first few months of 2009: W. Shane Winter, owner of Winter Financial Counseling; Mike Grellner, commercial broker with Plaza Real Estate. Gary L. Warren Jr., battalion chief and 13-year veteran of the Columbia Missouri Fire Department; James J. Samorian, business development for MayeCreate and Tranquility Internet; Karen Brown, president of Boone-Central Title Company, Tim Cox, chief operations officer for IMMVAC Inc., a local life science company that produces vaccines and serums for production and companion animals; and Yolanda Ciolli, owner of AKA:yoLa, a graphic arts and photography business.
Awards
University of Missouri junior Rick Puig has been recognized for his strong record of leadership and public service and named a Truman Scholar. The $30,000 scholarship is given to approximately 65 college juniors across the nation. Puig is president of the Young Democrats of Missouri and owns Public Forum Zone LLC, a business that produces educational resources for high school debate teams. After graduation, Puig plans to pursue a master’s degree in public policy.
The University of Missouri School of Medicine presented awards to two Columbia physicians during a reception and dinner at the Kansas City Club in conjunction with the Missouri State Medical Association’s annual conference April 2. Dr. David A. Fleming, founding director of the MU Center for Health Ethics and a professor of health services management and internal medicine at MU, received a Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Harold A. Williamson, the new vice chancellor for University of Missouri Health System, received an Honorary Medical Alumni Award, which is awarded to non-alumni who have made special contributions to MU’s School of Medicine.
Business Awards
Coil Construction Inc. was recently honored with awards in a contest sponsored by Varco Pruden Buildings that recognizes outstanding integration of building systems, products and design and drew entries from builders throughout North America. Coil Construction received a Hall of Fame Award in the agriculture category for its work on Warm Springs Ranch near Boonville and in the automotive category for the Perry Nissan Dealership in Columbia.
United Country Real Estate announced at its national convention in February that United Country – Missouri Land & Home in Columbia is the company’s No. 2 office in the nation. The Columbia franchise is the No. 1 office in United Country’s central division and earned the company’s Summit Elite Award for closed sales volume in 2008.
