Hirings
Raymond Management Group has recently named Don Smith as general manager of the Hampton Inn at 3410 Clark Lane in Columbia. Smith recently served as general manager of the Hampton Inn in Rogers, Ark. He is a graduate of Hickman High School and the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Mark Wappel
Marathon Office Interiors hired Mark Wappel as the new director of business development for the company. The new position was created in response to an expansion of the Marathon Office Interiors product line and its geographic service territory.

Dr. Jerry Bruggeman
Community Hospices of America hired Dr. Jerry Bruggeman and Dr. Paul Tatum as medical directors. They join Clay Anderson, M.D. to provide medical oversight of the agency and patients served in the Mid-Missouri area.

John Bailey
The Columbia office of Central Trust & Investment Company hired John Bailey as vice president and business development officer. Bailey’s primary responsibility is developing new investment management relationships, including IRA rollovers, investment advisory accounts and trust accounts. Bailey came to Central Trust & Investment Company from Boone County National Bank’s student lending affiliate, smartFUNDS, where he was director of educational finance. He had been with smartFUNDS for 12 years. Bailey received a bachelors from Central Methodist College and graduated with honors from the Graduate School of Banking. He is on the United Way Allocation Committee and an active volunteer with the Central Missouri Food Bank.
Promotions

Jayson Meyer
Jayson Meyer has been promoted to director of alumni relations at the Mizzou Alumni Association. Meyer joined the staff in 2004 as coordinator of alumni activities. His duties include managing the association’s scholarship program, alumni chapter development, leadership development program and volunteer leadership awards.

Debbie A. LaRue
Debbie A. LaRue, director of marketing and public relations, has been promoted to vice president at The Callaway Bank. Her primary responsibilities will be to direct and establish marketing strategies, plans and programs. She currently directs and coordinates the bank’s advertising, promotions, media communications and public relations functions, while also serving as the director of The Callaway Kids Bank.
Elections and Appointments
Christopher J. Barnett has been named co-director of the Center for Applied Research and Environmental Systems. Barnett holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s in geography from the University of Missouri-Columbia. His reappointment is for a term ending June 30, 2010.
Awards and Honors
Knorr Marketing Communications received two awards for its work on local communications campaigns. KMC received a Gold MarCom Award for its corporate branding campaign for Coil Construction, a commercial contractor in Columbia. The company also received an honorable mention MarCom Award for its grand opening campaign for the YouZeum, mid-Missouri’s only interactive health science center. The 2008 MarCom Awards are an international creative competition that recognize outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals. The awards are organized and judged by the Association of Marketing Communications Professionals. More than 5,000 entries were submitted for this year’s competition, and of those, about 18 percent were gold winners and 10 percent were honorable mention winners.

Dr. Mary Spratt
Dr. Mary Spratt, Cox Distinguished Professor in Science at William Woods University, was named the 2008 Missouri Professor of the Year. Spratt received her award Nov. 20 in Washington, D.C.
