A Columbia College assistant professor donated a record $111,000 to the college’s Tradition Meets Tomorrow campaign Thursday.

The donation, from Barry Langford, assistant professor of criminal justice, is the largest leadership gift from a faculty member. The gift will support the college’s Mock Trial Award, as well as scholarships for criminal justice and forensic science students.

Langford founded the college’s mock trial team.

“The support we’ve received from our faculty and staff has been remarkable,” Michael Kateman, executive director for Development, Alumni and Public Relations, said in a statement. “Our employees are committed to our students, and their gifts show in a very profound way that they want to see the college continue as a leader in providing quality higher education.”

The Tradition Meets Tomorrow campaign began in 2010 and has raised about $11 million for the college. About $1 million of the campaign has come from the college’s faculty and staff.

Columbia College celebrated the donation with an announcement Thursday, May 1. Scott Dalrymple, the college’s new president, made his first public appearance as president to present remarks.
